Psychologist and Executive Coach
As an Executive Advisor, Dr. Steve Axelrod has extensive experience as a consultant on executive talent development and as a trusted adviser and coach for C-suite and senior executives. Steve’s approach focuses on increasing client understanding of how both psychological and organizational forces shape an individual leader’s thinking and role behavior. By working to increase self-awareness, Steve helps clients gain confidence and overcome barriers to leadership growth. He has also used his skills as a psychologist to develop a unique coaching/counseling approach to helping organizations groom succession candidates where cultural nuances are particularly important.
Dr. Steve Axelrod is recognized as an expert on the powerful influence of a leader’s psychological dynamics on organizational performance. His book, Work and the Evolving Self (1999, Analytic Press), was chosen as a selection by the Behavioral Science Book Club. He wrote Executive Growth Along the Adult Development Curve as a chapter in The Wisdom of Coaching (2007, APA Books), and is the author of an e-book The Essential Core of Executive Coaching. Steve has appeared on radio and has been quoted in Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, and the Financial Times. His articles have been published by Forbes.com, CEO Update, ChiefExecutive.net, the American Psychological Association’s Good Company, and the Association for Corporate Counsel’s Docket.
Steve received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. in psychology from New York University. He has a certificate in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis from New York University where he is on the adjunct faculty teaching a course in organizational consultation.
